Abstract
Confrontation and cooperation of popular geopolitics and positivist political geography are evident, but their mutual impacts on creation of post-truth were discussed merely. They oversimplify facts and information for different uses; however, this leaves a situation in which some subjects are dominant due to amount of popular geopolitics representation without historical examination, while others are neglected because of restrictions rooted in concentration on positivist methods and political preferences. This results in a density in quantitative studies of contemporary era and subjects which are explained by positivist laws, while critical and historical subjects are almost undiscussed. The second issue is extending modern findings and situation into historical geography because of the dominance of modeling in political geography. Those findings appeared true because of positivist findings, but are post-truth due to oversimplifications and elimination of geographical issues and subjects. On the other side, popular geopolitics extensively relied on oversimplifying history and geography for political use and distorting the truth for political agenda. This issue is so vast that both academics and non-academics are subject to contents that supposed to cover all of the truth or be. This situation is intensified by the weakness of critical approaches among political geographers’ studies on history, gender, political economy and so on. Therefore, it may well be said that there is a post-truth geography moment in which not only crucial time-space remains undiscussed in Iran, but also existing studies cannot answer all questions of Iran due to poverty of research on some subjects.
